Lawrence

Well, I left Dallas on Monday for the long drive back to Lawrence :( It was a pretty unspectacular drive except for the last two hours when it got kinda sleety and wet. Then Tuesday morning I had to go to work. I spent a couple of days making the photo log for the pics from Oklahoma. It was pretty boring and almost all of the pics looked the same. Fields with trees. 'Cause Oklahoma is cool like that, having trees and all.

It is cold here in Lawrence. About 30 degrees or so. But it isn't really snowy or anything. So that's good. Office work is boring. We spent many days glueing small pieces of paper to rocks. We also decided to make a wall mural of post its with stupid facts or statements on them. It was a great, colorful, neon colored time. I will post pics of it at some point.

Last night I saw the movie Layer Cake with Daniel Craig. It was okay, but really confusing. And it was supposed to be an action thriller, but there was very little action. So that was disappointing.

Tomorrow some of us are going to see Cloverfield. Hopefully its good and not too scary. I don't want Naomi to be scarred for life after I convinced her to go. I would feel pretty bad.

So next week I guess we're going out to finish the project that I originally came down here for, digging in WaKeeney. Supposedly we'll be done in 10 days, but I'm betting on the ground being frozen so I don't know how we're even going to dig. So here's hoping it works!

Then I may be going to Florida or Louisiana. Woo swamps and alligators!

Dallas

Well, the Dallas trip isn't over yet, but I'm not doing anything right now so I figured I'd write. We got done with work early on Tuesday so I took off and got down here around 5. I was also told that I can have Monday as a full travel day to get back to Lawrence so I have almost an entire week off of work. So that's pretty awesome.

Wednesday we took Leland to the dog park to play with the other dogs. Mostly he just humps all the boy dogs, but there was a lot of running involved. Then we went to half-price books to get coffee and browse. We found really cool leather bound books there, so of course I bought them even though I don't need any more books. I shouldn't be allowed in book stores.

Yesterday I went to the class that Kylie is TAing for. It was an intro arch lecture, but it was fun. Then we hung out on campus and went and got Mediterranian food. That was really good. Then we went to a medical anthropology lecture about privatized healthcare in Puerto Rico. It was really quite interesting.

After that we went out with a bunch of the arch grad students for drinks and dinner. They are an interesting bunch. Today I'm doing laundry and then we're going to late night at the Dallas Museum of Art. So that should be fun. Wee!

Ha HA!

Well, I have giant cuts and scrapes all over me. I look like I've been fighting with a herd of cats. But really I've just been fighting off barbed wire fences and all kinds of viney, spiney plants. Then I fell down on some gravel and cut and bruised my knee. So my legs look awful. It would be embarrassing if it wasn't so cool. So basically I have the best job ever. We wander through the woods and through pastures and rivers and whatever else looking for archaeological sites. If we find anything we take pics and digs some shovel tests to see if there is anything important there. Its really fun except that we get up and going by 6:45am every day. Which is insane. We go to a safety meeting and then hang out for another half hour while logistics of where we're going that day are figured out. Then we spend about an hour driving to try to find where we are actually going to start. I don't really know how they could have done this shit before GPS.

So basically it comes down to you being totally jealous of my job because it is so awesomely cool.

To Oklahoma

Well, we are headed down to Oklahoma on Monday. We are scheduled down there for one 10 day session. We are suppose to get 36 miles done. I don't really know what it is that we are doing though, so I don't know if that's realistic or not :D I guess we're going to dig holes every 30 meters or so. So we'll see how that goes. We'll be in the way south of Oklahoma, so I'll probably go down to Dallas the 4 day after the session and visit Kylie. I suppose that is all for now. It is suppose to be pretty warm in Oklahoma this week, so I'm pretty psyched for that. 50s and 60s. Woo!

Hmmm....

I kinda feel as though I never work anymore. Today we have a real snow day. It started snowing yesterday and we got off of work early. Then it snowed most of the night and we aren't going out today. So I suppose that means I should pack up my shit and start getting it into my car. We leave here on Tuesday to go back to Lawerence. Then from there I head to Kansas City on Wed to fly home for Christmas. It's suppose to be nice for the next few days now, so the snow should all melt or at least get off of the main roads. So that's good, because I hate driving my car in the snow. I should probably also try to start the car, since its been about a week of cold since it was last started. I think I've left it longer in colder temps before though. Well, I suppose that is about it. Perhaps I will pack/clean up for awhile and then watch a movie.....hmmmmmm............

Snow Days!

We've had 2 snow days in a row now. I guess they're more "ice days" than snow really, but the point is, we haven't had to work. Things outside my window appear to be melting at the moment though. Now the only question is if my car will start when I try it. I don't want to try, because I don't want to know that it doesn't work. But then again, I don't want it to sit for too many days in the cold without being started. Ah well, if it has to be jumped it has to be jumped.

Nothing else too exciting is going on. I'm kinda sick, so I'm glad not to have to be out in the cold. My throat is sore, but I think that's from all the sniffling. Anyway, I suppose I will go back to reading my book now. As that is all I tend to do all day long :)
